Journey to 12 Shakthi Peets in West Bengal, India

Om Sri Baala Ganapathayey Namaha

Blog written by Venkatesh.N, on 06-September-2013,  08:30 am, Muthyala Nagar, Bangalore. India

Thanks and gratitude for all well wishers whose blessings I could embark to the secret, sacred, remote Shathi Peets in West Bengal, India.

Preparation:
Even after 2 weeks of extensive browsing articles on net, I could not get detailed articles mentioning exact locations of the divine Shakthi Peets in West Bengal, India. This left me with no second thoughts... I affirmed myself that the journey would take me through a series of mental battles to trace exact locations physically. Come whatever obstacles in my way, I will go through....

Outcome:
We did embark on a magical, thrilling journey, tracing the mystical, subtle moments which the history had long long ago scripted, a glorious and mysterious episode hidden to the naked mind. Few locations are too remote today.

In West Bengal, India. One can find 14 Shakthi Peets. Owing to time and financial constraints, I visited 12 Shakthi Peets here.

Who should read this article:
To those persons interested to know the sacred Shakti Peets of Aadi Shakthi.
There is tremendous immeasurable energy in each of the Shakthi Peethas beyond grasp. This article is just restricted to the locations and other small details.

Introduction:
My name is Venkatesh, born in August 1986, Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
A Software engineer by profession, travelling being my hobby,
The intention of posting is to share information so that this can benefit people immensely.

About Shakthi Peets as I know:
Daksha Prajapathi (father) and Prasuti(mother) were the parents of Sati.
Divine Oracles point to Sati as Adi Shakthi incarnate in human form and she will marry Lord Shiv.
Great story takes place and somehow Sati weds Shiv (though much against the wishes of her father who finally obliges her marriage to Shiv upon Vishnu's insistence).

After a considerable passage of marital life, in one of his sweet conversations to Sati, Shiv describes the magical powerful role of Lord Ram, being all powerful, equal and dear to him in all dimensional aspects.
Shiv informs her about the abduction of Sita(wife of Ram) by Ravan, a demon by nature.
Sati desires to see Ram and tries to intervene in his leela though clearly warned by Shiv not to do so.

Not heeding to her husband's serious tone of warning, Sati decides to disguise herself as the wife of Ram and check his divine identity, power, authenticity and knowledge.

She meets Ram and Lakshman in the guise of Sita. Lakshman fails to recognize the disguise but however Ram immediately recognizes the person in disguise as Sati, Lord Shiv's consort and bows his head in reverence to Aadi Shakthi. This angers Lord Shiv and  forces him to make his presence to Ram (Shiv didn't want to intervene in Ram's leela, though now forced to come to rectify the misdeed by Sati out of her ignorance).
Shiv and Sati bless Ram and Lakshman for their success and vanish.

Shiv now starts ignoring Sati and mentions that he can no longer see her her as his wife due to her disguise as Sita (para stree - not one's wife).

Sati regrets for her ignorant human mentality and now being helpless, prays to Ram mentally to help her get back her Love from Shiv.
(incase if you are wondering, age/time of Ramayan and Sati giving up body are so mismatching.. Then its time you look into Time travel concepts.. Aadi Guru Lord Shiv explains the story/concept of Ram to Sati beyond a time which cannot be measured)

This episode in my opinion becomes the reason why Sati's body had to be separated as per the divine plan since it always reminded Shiv of Maaa Sita (wife of Lord Ram). To remove this obstacle between Aadi Shakthi and Shiv, destiny chooses Daksha prajapathi as the mistake do'er. He insults Shiv in a Great Yagna therbeby invoking the anger of Sati. Unable to suffer in limited human affairs, Aadi Shakthi finds a reason to quit her human body (a yogic experience) as Sati . This broadcasts a loud message as to why woman keep one's husband in highest regards.
Please read the wiki link on Sati here: (LINK1)

Shiv loses his calm on hearing the sudden demise of Sati, results in the destruction of the great yagna, lifts the daed body of Sati and tunes himself to destructive cosmic dance. Sensing danger to the creations, all seek help of Vishnu to bring back normalcy in all creations.

From his divine weapon, sudarshan chakra, Vishnu separated Sati's body into 51 parts and these parts spread and fell in different geographical locations on earth. This forced Lord Shiv to make his presence on earth - which meant Adi guru's feet touch on earth - means - earth graced by divine knowledge - means no more to fear of ignorance.

Shiv chooses a human life to find Sati's different body parts (total 51 parts). He finds many obstacles to trace it and finally succeeds. Wherever Shakthi is, Shiva is. Hence in every location of Sati's body part, a Shiv Ling is seen. This together forms a SHAKTHI PEET. Hence it is told to visit both the body part plus the Shiv Ling nearby. (I am not sure if the Bhairav and Shiv Ling are referred as one, nevertheless both are part and parcels of Shiv only)

No doubt, the stories encode a strong chain of bond that a human mind can sustain and emerge out of a profound world of intense love and connections. The Best ever Love is Ardhanaareshwara (Half Shiv and Half Parvathi).

Later Shiv chooses a place in Himalayas, merges himself to maha samadhi/dhyna to answer the many questions thrown to him by the sudden occurance of Sati's seperation from him. In due time, traces of Love evaporates in him. All traces of interest dries out. Thats when destiny prepares a stronger urge in the form of Pravathi (new and stronger/powerful incarnation of Aadi Shakthi) makes her presence to restore the balance of male and female energy in this cosmos. Ultimate story.
There are many different versions on the story of shiv and parvathi in puranas. But the plots and threads are as usual - very interesting and mind blowing.

Story:
How it all started...
A year ago, read a book AGHORA II (LINK4) by Robert E. Svoboda. A mention of Tara Pith in this book got me started to know about Maa Tara and the rest was instantaneous and history.

Initial Abstract Plan:
I thought initially 10 rough days of travel should take me through the journey even if the exact locations are not known. But in the end, it took me 3 and a half days only.
Travel dates: September 1 2013 to whatever date it would take me to complete :)
List of places I had prepared to travel in West Bengal:
KIRIT NALHATI TARAPITH BAKRESWAR NANDIPUR KANKALI_TALA
BAHULA JUGADYA UJANI ATTAHAS RATNAWALI KALIGHAT
TRISHROTA VIBHASH
14 Shakthi Peets in West Bengal, India

Persons Involved:
August 19 2013, I booked a flight ticket to Kolkata. Come what may, I decided, I would make my journey successful. I had no idea or plan how this could be achieved.

One of my close friend Nikil, works in a Travel Company. A religious mind with a good heart.
He referred me to Binay, a well experienced Travel Marketing Manager for North Zone India.

Time soon flew, I had no plan yet and it was 31st August (next day early morning 6am was my flight) !!!! Its 8 pm now and my mind is racing .... NO PLANS YET !!
I called up Binay to help me.
He in turn referred me to a Manager staying in West Bengal. His name is Arindham, a Travel Manager in a package tour company named Shree Krishna International Hotel, Kolkata,West Bengal.

1020pm 31st August 2013, telephonic call ensued between me and Arindham.
I mailed him a detailed list (pic above) and we freezed places from 1 to 12.
(place number 13 TRISHROTA and 14 VIBHASH became beyond my travel budget to visit, hence I freezed to 12 Shakthi Peets).

Arindham, though residing in West bengal for many years, expressed his non awareness of the existence of the many Shakthi Peets which he saw in my mail.
But the landmarks mentioned in the mail helped him to create a rough travel plan.

A deal was made at 10:45 pm 31st August 2013on the travel plan.
He concluded the telephonic call with the rough travel plan as below:
Mr. Venkatesh, it would take 3 and a half days to complete.
2 experienced drivers for me with a XYLO car.
and finally discussed on the fare and other expenses.

I CONFIRMED with a OK informing him to pick me from the Kolkota airport at 830am the next morning.

Total kilometers:
800 kilometers from  kolkata airport -> 12 Shakthi Peets -> and back to kolkata airport
Since we didnt know the exact routes, we took many experimental wrong routes, we ended with additional 300 km. But with the above exact locations, it will take less than or close to 800 km.

Total Expense:
Flight Ticket Bangalore to Kolkata = Air India INR 4,500 September 01 2013 Sunday
Flight Ticket Kolkata to Bangalore = Air India INR 10,124 September 04 2013 Wednesday
4 days XYLO car + diesel fuel + 2 Driver charges = INR 30,000
4 days Toll charges on the way = approx INR 200
4 days food expense (Me and 2 drivers) + night hotel rest : approx INR 1600
---
My case, I was alone, so I bore the entire charges approx INR 47,000
---
If you plan to visit, then the following can help you plan: From Kolkata and Back to Kolkata
Suggestion :
INR 20 per km for XYLO car for total 2 drivers + 5 other passengers in car
INR 20 x 800km = 16000 INR
So per person, it could be 16000 (divided by) 5 = INR 3200
You may choose a smaller car also like ETIOS, SWIFT, which would mean INR 12 x 800km = 9600 INR
So per person, it could be 9600 (divided by) 5 = INR 1920
However, since the roads are not that smooth, lots of jerks, i would still suggest stronger vehicles like XYLO, QUALIS, will be comfortable.
